Cargo Transport From Uzbekistan To EU Countries Via Latvia – The Times Of Central Asia

According to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan’s press service ,Uzbekistan has agreed to develop road cargo transportation through Latvian port.

The decision was made after discussions between the Uzbek and Latvian Joint Commission on International Road Transportation on topics related to trade development and economic relations as well as increasing the volume of international freight transportation.

In a press release welcoming the move, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport announced: “Today, Uzbekistan-EU trade relations are expanding and the importance of the route that passes through Latvian ports has grown.” The meeting focused on the efficient utilization of Latvia’s potential port infrastructure. Annija Novikova, head of the Public Transport Department of Latvia’s Ministry of Transport, has expressed her willingness to provide comprehensive support in creating favorable conditions for Uzbekistan’s national carriers within the framework of collaboration.”

During the meeting the parties agreed on a quota for 2024 and to provide special permits in order to organize cargo transportation via road through Latvian port.
