HiddenLayer is a cybersecurity firm born in Austin that is at the forefront the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The company offers a comprehensive cybersecurity solution that aims to safeguard all forms of artificial intelligent.
Walt Maciborski, host of “Tech This Out”, spoke with Chris Sestito. He says HiddenLayer’s primary mission is preventing hackers from corrupting AI data and ensuring that threat actors can’t induce hallucinations or steal AI models.
Sestito explains there are ways to bypass rules set for models. This is known as “jailbreaking.” This could lead models to be manipulated to perform inappropriate actions, like instructing how to make a bomb.
HiddenLayer acknowledges the complexity and importance of AI threats, especially for high-value targets such as those in the banking and defense sectors. These threats can lead financial gain, espionage and business disruption.

HiddenLayer, however, believes that these threats are mitigated and that the innovative and groundbreaking potential of AI can be realized.
Microsoft recently announced a partnership to deploy HiddenLayer’s Model Scanner in order to protect Microsoft Azure AI. “They are a major investor for us. They’re also a leader in AI applications. Azure and Azure ML are able to put artificial intelligence in the hands of everyone. They were a natural partner for us,” said Sestito.
HiddenLayer’s technology is a unique and non-intrusive way to approach AI security. Their platform analyzes AI models without access to raw data and algorithms, ensuring transparency and maintaining model privacy.
“HiddenLayer exists in order to drive the adoption and security of AI. We are very passionate about our mission. Abigail Maines, HiddenLayer’s Chief Revenue Officer, said: “We feel very confident and have a lot of conviction that we can do this.”
Maines states that HiddenLayer, with its robust security solutions, is “positioned to become a major player in the AI economy right from its base in Austin.”
