  • Lufthansa Cargo provides customers with solutions for eCommerce imports into Europe using heyworld and Customs Broker
  • Transport Logistic China invites you to a workshop on eCommerce

Global eEommerce is growing unstoppably. The market research firm eMarketer predicts a nine percent annual growth for global B2C B2B online trade by 2027. Cross-border eCommerce is a major growth driver. According to the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, sales from cross-border commerce from China grew from EUR 103 billion to EUR 239 in 2023. This represents a 23% annual growth rate. The majority of parcels sent from China are headed for the USA (35%), Europe (25%), and Germany (around a quarter).

Lufthansa Cargo now offers transportation, customs clearance and handling from a single provider with heyworld and CB.

Lufthansa, a global air freight company, is a key factor in this growth. Lufthansa Cargo, together with its subsidiaries CB Customs Broker and heyworld GmbH, already offers its customers reliable solutions for transport, import, and last-mile to ensure smooth and compliant eCommerce trade across borders.

According to the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) forecasts, the share of eEommerce freight in total air cargo volume will increase from 15% in 2019 to 30 % in 2027. The online trade will account for one third of all freight. Lufthansa Cargo, one of the leading companies in air freight transportation, supports cross-border eCommerce through a dense network of freight along with a reliable, efficient, and sustainable service. We want to help our clients benefit from the rapid growth of the eCommerce market in China. Our tailor-made solutions and extensive freight networks in China enable us to ensure a smooth and compliant importation of eCommerce shipments to Germany and Europe, enabling global business,” says Ashwin Bhat CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.

heyworld eCommerce Hub FRA – Direct access to the German and EU markets

heyworld GmbH provides digital logistics solutions for B2C and B2B eCommerce cross-border transport – for shippers with 100 parcels to 100 tons. Heyworld orchestrates all aspects of the transport chain, from the first mile to the last, including customs clearances and returns. heyworld offers eCommerce shippers cost-efficient airfreight solutions that are tailored for the time-critical requirements of customers. The company operates a dedicated eCommerce hub at Frankfurt Airport, with a sorting platform and its own software platform to integrate customer and partner data.

With the heyworld eCommerce Hub in Frankfurt, a eCommerce logistics solution was created with Lufthansa Cargo for B2C shipments directly from China to Germany and Europe. Transport time from China until the final-mile provider receives the shipment is 24 to 48 hours. Customers can benefit from a fast and reliable solution, with departure options in China at different airports, export and import clearance, and access to last-mile solutions in Europe and UK. The heyworld eCommerce Hub can sort more than 100,000 parcels per day.

CB Customs Broker is responsible for the digital customs clearance before landing of eCommerce shipments.

CB Customs Broker, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo, offers the expertise needed for customs clearance. The company uses specially-developed software to securely and fully transmit shipment data to customs. In collaboration with handling partners at airports, shipments are handed over up to 50% faster than before. CB Customs Broker clears already two million eCommerce shipments per month at Frankfurt Airport.

In 2020, the company developed its own software to be able clear the high demand of eCommerce more efficiently during pandemic. Two years later, it was certified to the ATLAS IMPOST procedure of declaring postal and courier shipments. The software can clear shipments up to 150 euros in value digitally, for both customs and import VAT. The software can digitally process 20,000 consignments in an hour and declare them at customs before landing.

The software also allows for an ICS2 (Import Control System 2) declaration. This IT control system records all data about goods imported into the EU, before they arrive. This important control tool is used for risk assessments and hazards prevention. CB Customs Broker automatically provides this data at package level in accordance with ICS2 specifications. The company also performs automated compliance checks. A modular software structure, modern encryption technologies and API interfaces enable data transfer between shippers.

As soon as consignments arrive in Frankfurt, they’re taken to the eCommerce hub and sorted, scanned, and tagged at the package level. The data is then sent directly to customs using API. Frankfurt customs clears up to 70,000 eCommerce shipments every day. CB Customs Broker, the only customs brokerage that can reliably clear such large volumes in Frankfurt, is CB Customs Broker.
