Ocean Network Express UK (ONE) has announced that, following a successful six-month pilot programme, it will continue to use HVO100 fuel in all rail cargo transportation, in partnership Freightliner. HVO100 is a renewable fuel made from waste fats, vegetable oils and oils from the food sector. This innovative switch to HVO100 from conventional diesel can reduce CO2 by up to 90 percent, providing a significant environmental advantage. The fuel is certified, which ensures that the materials and origins of the fuel are verified.

This initiative is part ONE’s green rail offer, which allows customers to purchase a certificate of carbon reduction that acknowledges the efforts they have made to reduce their carbon footprint. Customers can contact their local sales representatives for more information about the green offer and how it is implemented.

Nick Reay (Head of Operations at ONE UK) said: “ONE UK in partnership with Freightliner is pleased to continue transportation of our cargo inland by rail powered by HVO100. During our 6-month successful pilot period, we calculated an incredible 488 tons of CO2 emissions saved by switching to renewable fuel. We thank Freightliner, for collaborating with ONE to create a greener, more sustainable supply chain. ONE continues to innovate ways to achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

Clive Slayford said, “We are delighted that ONE has selected HVO fuel for their UK rail freight journeys. We are committed at Freightliner to proactively reduce our environmental impact. We have shown our commitment over the years to offer customers a greener option using HVO fuel, which reduces carbon emission compared to diesel or road alternatives.

ONE and Freightliner have announced a 5-year contract. The two companies have been working together for the past year. This contract, in conjunction with a commitment towards sustainability, provides customers with seamless connections from London Gateway or the Port of Southampton, to strategic locations throughout the UK. Both companies are committed to reducing environmental impact. They will continue to search for and provide sustainable solutions in the UK supply chain.
