South Korean flagship carrier HMM has signed a memorandum of understanding with railroad freight transportation services provider Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to create an intermodal transportation system.

The agreement covers utilising domestic rail infrastructure for refrigerated cargo and establishing a one-stop transportation system that connects rail and maritime freight.

According to HMM, this cooperation will contribute to developing a low-carbon logistics transportation system and reduce carbon emissions.

HMM and KORAIL will be looking to improve the efficiency of a new container yard which KORAIL is scheduled to secure. The partnership aims to build a new distribution hub and work on a multimodal transport network for reefer containers.
