This week, we are saddened to announce that Greg Stahl, chairman of the Motor Dealers Association of Alberta and founder of New West Truck Centres has passed away.

New West Truck Centres founder Stahl dies

Greg Stahl, CEO and owner of New West Truck Centres, died unexpectedly last weekend at the age of 52, the company announced on LinkedIn. Stahl was also chairman of the Motor Dealers Association of Alberta (MDA).

Stahl was a prominent figure in Canada’s trucking industry, known for his hands-on experience and leadership, New West Truck Center wrote in an announcement. His career began early, working alongside his father, and spanned every part of the business — from the turning wrenches on the shop floor to the boardroom.

Since founding New West Truck Centres in Calgary and Lethbridge in 2008, Stahl expanded the company. Under his leadership, the business grew to 10 locations across Alberta and British Columbia, including sites in Redcliff, Balzac, Taber, Red Deer, and Cranbrook.

“Greg led with humility, integrity, and an unwavering belief in people… For the past 16 years, Greg poured his heart into New West Truck Centres — not just building a business, but shaping a team, a culture, and a shared sense of purpose,” the announcement reads.

MDA said in its own post that Stahl’s leadership also played a key role in introducing the Western Star brand to several locations in southern Alberta.

“More than a leader, Greg was a valued member of the MDA team, and his presence will be deeply missed,” the association wrote on LinkedIn.

In his personal life, he was a beloved husband, brother, son, mentor, and a friend, New West Truck Centres added.
