According to Energy Information Administration statistics released on June 17, the national average diesel price reversed its course and rose 7.7 cents, to $3.735. This ended a nine-year decline.

Highlights

  • The average price of a gallon diesel has fallen by 40.3 cents from April 8, when the price was raised by 6.5 cents to $4.061.
  • The price increase is the largest since Feb. 12. A 21 cent spike pushed the average price of a gallon diesel from $3.899 to $4.109.
  • A gallon diesel costs on average 8 cents less than it did in 2023.
  • The average price of a gallon diesel in EIA’s weekly survey increased in nine out of 10 regions, with New England being the only exception. The Midwest saw the biggest increase — 10.9 cents.
  • The average national price of a gallon gasoline also increased, but only by six-tenths a cent, to $3.435. This is 14.2 cents cheaper than the price at this time last year.
