Energy Impact Partners has hired Jeff McDermott, founder of Nomura Greentech, as a partner and head of strategic finance.
Prior to EIP, McDermott was global co-head of investment banking at Nomura Securities International. He founded Greentech in 2009 and “developed it into one of the leading investment banks specializing in the energy transition,” EIP said in a statement. (Nomura acquired the firm in 2020 and renamed it Nomura Greentech.)
McDermott has also held roles at UBS, Salomon Brothers/Citigroup and Drexel Burnham Lambert.
“As the energy transition and demand for clean energy is picking up pace, the need for capital and collaboration only increases,” said EIP founder and managing partner Hans Kobler. “Jeff’s vast experience and strategic insight will be invaluable for us and our portfolio on this journey.”
Based in New York, EIP has more than $4 billion in assets under management. It invests globally across venture, growth and credit. Its venture funds include Elevate Future Fund, which closed on about $112 million in May 2023, and Deep Decarbonization Frontier Fund, which closed on $485 million in November 2022, according to fundraising data from affiliate Private Equity International (registration required).
Investors in EIP’s recent VC funds include Amazon Catalytic Capital, BNP Paribas Fortis, CenterPoint Energy, Duke Energy, Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, Microsoft, PPL Corporation, Southern Company Pension Fund, State Street Global Advisors and Xcel Energy Pension Fund, PEI reports.
