R&I commissioner Iliana Ivanova seeks to create network of investors in high-tech companies

The European Commission has taken initial steps to set up a network of venture capital investors to better support early-stage companies focused on ‘deep tech’—technology requiring a lot of R&D.

Access to startup funding is critical for the development of companies in high-risk deep-tech sectors, but the venture capital market in Europe is only about a quarter of the level available in the US, the Commission said on 13 June.
