After the departure of Luis Manuel, GCV Emerging Leader Frederico Goncalves has been appointed partner and managing Director of CVC.
Frederico Bilelo Goncalves is the new head of EDP Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Portuguese utilities company EDP.
EDP Ventures, founded in 2008, invests in renewable energy and sustainability companies around the world. Grid, green hydrogen and AI, as well as energy storage, mobility, and energy storage are all target technologies.
Goncalves joined EDP in 2010 and was named an Emerging Leader by GCV. EDP Ventures hired him in 2010, and GCV named him a Emerging Leader for this year.
Luis Manuel, the former managing director and partner of EDP Ventures left EDP earlier this year. He was with the parent company since 2008, and appeared on the GCV Powerlist for 2023 as well as 2020. He has not yet revealed his next steps.
EDP Ventures currently has 40 active portfolio companies. Eight of these have been sold. It has recently made additional investments in the US. These include AI-based power platform Splight, ocean technology developer Captura, and Yotta Energy which provides solar energy.
The 11 team members of the unit are located in Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Luis Fabrica, a Lisbon-based investment associate, was promoted to investment manager earlier this month.
