MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Gov. Tony Evers and Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Monday that about $5 million would be spent on three freight rail improvements projects.
The Freight Rail Infrastructure Improvement Program (FRIIP) will fund improvement projects in Luxemburg and Reedsburg by upgrading agricultural equipment, building new storage at a terminus and installing new track.
FRIIP loans are used to fund rail projects that connect industries to the national railroad network and improve safety.
WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson stated that “Wisconsin’s prosperity and its competitiveness depends on a reliable, efficient and safe transportation system.” “When we support the freight rail, we directly support the people and businesses in our communities.”
Evers stressed the importance of freight rail in meeting current demands.
“Freight rail corridors are critical to the economy of our state and our transportation system, helping to get products to market and move services and goods from A to B in Wisconsin,” said Gov. Evers said.
Rio Creek Feed Mill and Riffey Transload, as well as the Village of Wrightstown, are recipients of the FRIIP Loan.
