Trucker injured in tractor-trailer crash and fire on I-81 in VA

The Winchester Star reports the driver, Giorgi Khutsishvili, 42, of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, was airlifted to Winchester Medical Center to be treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Virginia State Police report Khutsisvill’s 2025 Peterbilt was northbound on I-81 Saturday afternoon when a tire blew. The rig struck a guardrail, jackknifed and caught fire near the 272 mile marker.

Several fire departments responded to the cash and blaze.

The northbound lanes of I-81 were closed for about two hours.

Troopers continue their investigation.

Shenandoah County is located about 100 miles west of Washington, D.C.
