Virginia State PoliceA trucker was injured when his tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire Saturday, April 19, on Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

The Winchester Star reports the driver, Giorgi Khutsishvili, 42, of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, was airlifted to Winchester Medical Center to be treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Virginia State Police report Khutsisvill’s 2025 Peterbilt was northbound on I-81 Saturday afternoon when a tire blew. The rig struck a guardrail, jackknifed and caught fire near the 272 mile marker.

Several fire departments responded to the cash and blaze.

The northbound lanes of I-81 were closed for about two hours.

Troopers continue their investigation.

Shenandoah County is located about 100 miles west of Washington, D.C.
